CES Fitness Staff Biographies

CES Owner/Executive Trainer

Jason P. Green, Founder and CEO    Jason is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Medicine. Jason is a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer and a Certified Golf Biomechanics instructor. As an undergraduate at the U of M, he spent 3 years with the Men's Athletic Department as a student athletic trainer, where he worked with the Football, Track and Field, Cross Country, Golf and Tennis teams. During that time, the Track and Field Team won 3 Big Ten Championships. Since graduating, Jason has worked as a Personal Trainer specializing in Corrective Exercise, Golf Conditioning, Sports Specific Enhancement, Injury Management, and Rehabilitation. He has extensive experience working with back problems, as well as knee and shoulder maladies. He has trained such notable clients as Bruce Fleisher, 2001 Sr. PGA U.S. Open Champion, Bob Gilder, 2001 Sr. PGA Championship winner, Vincente Fernandez, Sr. PGA Tour Player, and Matt Anderson, member of the University of Minnesota's 2002 NCAA National Champion Golf Team.

  Meredith Hintz, PT   Meredith has been a physical therapist for 5 years; her experience includes treating sports injuries, neurological disorders, and providing pre-/post-surgical rehabilitation. She designs rehabilitation programs that include yoga, pilates, and somatics. In the outpatient setting, Meredith specializes in Manual Therapy and outpatient orthopedic evaluation and treatment of all musculoskeletal dysfunction and injuries. In the inpatient setting, she works at Sister Kenny Institute with acute care patients who are recovering from post surgical procedures such as total knee and hip replacements, spine surgeries and fractures, heart attacks and bypass surgery. Meredith also works extensively with post CVA, spinal cord injuries, and medical/surgical patients. Meredith is also a triathlete, mountain climber, seven-time marathon finisher, and she has been a tennis player for 30 years.
   

Doug Locy, MA, ATC    Doug coordinates the Physician Assistance Program at CES, in addition to working in an administrative capacity for all of CES. He was an athletic trainer at the University of Minnesota for 19 years, serving as Director of Sports Medicine for 10 years. He has considerable experience dealing with football and hockey injuries, and extensive knowledge dealing with U of M team physicians, facilitating physician visits, and organizing physician-patient communications. Doug was the athletic trainer for USA Hockey at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France, in addition to being the head athletic trainer with Gopher Football for much of his career at the U of M. An undergraduate of the U of M (’79), Doug received his graduate degree from Michigan State University (’81). He lives in St Paul.

Ryan McDowell, BS, FMS, TPI, CrossFit  With a real zest for life and constant variety of cutting-edge ideas, training with Ryan is always an adventure! Specializing in corrective exercise, sport-specific training, and metabolic conditioning, Ryan brings a true passion for fitness and infuses real excitement to each session. Ryan enjoys teaching CrossFit to all ages and abilities.  As a Titleist Performance Institute-Certified Fitness Professional, Ryan loves helping Minnesotans improve in their passion of golf.  In addition to 10 years of personal training experience, Ryan has conducted over 100 wellness presentations for corporate, civic, and philanthropic organizations. Ryan is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.  Ryan spent 3 years as a student athletic trainer working with the Badger football, soccer, and wrestling teams. Residing with his wife in Minneapolis, Ryan enjoys running with his 2 dogs, biking, and playing golf.  Ryan is a member of Metropolis Rugby Club.

Laura McCabe, ACE, RKC  Laura is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) and Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC) Certified Personal Trainer.  Laura discovered yoga five years ago and fell in love with the practice. She feels lucky to have had the opportunity to study with Fiona Lockhart, Kat Carrol, Jessica Rosenberg, and Manju Pattabhi Jois. Laura began teaching yoga two years ago. Recently Laura completed her 200 hour Yoga Alliance certification with CorePower Yoga under the instruction of Lisa Bloom and Jaina Portwood with an emphasis in vinyasa/power yoga. Laura strives to live the life of the modern yogi: "I am constantly seeking ways to challenge the physical and mental bodies in order to go deeper within, searching for the Self."  Laura's challenging yoga classes are designed to strengthen the physical body and the mind, providing the student with the environment in which to obtain a deeper understanding of Self. In each class, students will connect movement to breath through a vinyasa style of yoga. If you are interested in taking your practice to a deeper level she also offers individual Yoga sessions and Kettlebell instruction.
   

Nathan Osborne, Fitness Trainer  Nathan is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Fitness (similar to NASM or ACE); he completed coursework usually covered in a four-year degree program during a concentrated one-year course for Australian professional athletes. Nathan played professional Rugby for four years (Australia's equivalent to an elite NFL athlete). Rugby is the most popular sport in Australia and second most popular in the world. Nathan's training and experience as a professional athlete has prepared him to do intesive work with high risk athletes, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and focused strength training, fat loss, and nutrition management to help clients reach their goals and optimal athletic performance. Nathan teaches a specilized small group fitness class called Aussie Boot Camp. With a maximum enrollment of 6, Nathan provides a more personal touch, customizing each class to your needs, fitness level, and injury profile. He adjusts your technique and monitors progress daily to ensure that you meet your strength, cardiovascular and flexibility goals. Nathan uses a tailored, carefully monitored group session, motivational techniques, and his Aussie disposition, to create a fun environment that will keep you coming back. Nathan met his wife (a MN native) while on a Rugby tour through the US and he continues to play Rugby for the Metropolis Rugby Team.

   
 

Kirsten Cecere, NASM     Kirsten is following her passion for health and wellness in order to educate and work with others to improve their life. Kirsten is NASM certified and specializes in weight loss, strength and cardiovascular training and stress management. Previously, she worked for 9 years in magazine publishing for Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine. In her free time, Kirsten enjoys camping, hiking, biking and taking long walks with her husband and two small children.

   
 

Will Starr, RKC, Functional Movement Specialist   Will graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in economics.  During his first year in the finance industry he quickly realized he needed to pursue his real passion, fitness!  Will completed an intensive internship at CES and is certified in the Functional Movement Screen and is Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC) Certified .  He was involved with multiple sports in high school and played football for the Ole’s during college.   His background in athletics and training has equipped him with the tools to deal with high intensity performance training, corrective exercise and strength training.  With his experience in sports and passion for working with kids, he hopes to get involved in coaching high school football.   Will is committed to fitness through all facets of his own life and is committed to help others reach their own fitness goals. He is thrilled about the corrective and functional approach to physical development and believes it needs to be incorporated with all levels of sports and perhaps more importantly, everyday life.  He is grateful and excited to be part of the CES team and looks forward to expanding his knowledge with the resources available.  Residing in Roseville, Will is interested in a broad range of literature and music. His other interests include recreational sports and time with family and friends.

   

Massage Therapy

Becky Pulju, Massage Therapist   Upon graduating from Sister Rosalind’s School of Massage in 2004, Becky was certified in Massage Therapy, Chair Massage and Reflexology.  Shortly afterwards, she attained national certification in Reflexology from the American Reflexology Certification Board, and national certification in Massage Therapy from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.  Becky has also studied CranioSacral Therapy I, II and III through the Upledger Institute as well as Orthopedic Massage and Pain Management under author and international lecturer, James Waslaski, LMT.  She is insured through Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals.  Since finishing school, Becky has worked at a health club and chiropractic office where she’s gained much experience in both Sports and Therapeutic Massage.  Previously, she received her Master of Music from the University of Minnesota, and although she has moved more into the direction of bodywork, she still enjoys composing and continues to get published through the Kjos and FJH Music Companies.  Good nutrition, exercise and regular bodywork are the keys to being healthy and Becky is dedicated to providing her clients with a satisfying session which will leave them feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
   
  Amanda Scott, Massage Therapist   Certified in Massage Therapy and Bodywork through the Aveda Institute of Minneapolis. This training gives Amanda a toolbox of techniques that allow her to take a unique approach to each client’s specific needs. Her education included clinical application of trigger point therapy, sports massage and PNF stretching, reflexology, lymphatic massage, Swedish and deep tissue techniques, and polarity/energy work. Amanda transitioned into massage therapy after completing her degree in trumpet performance because her goal is to help people reach a greater level of wellbeing and positive self-awareness through nurturing touch. Amanda’s physical activity of choice is spelunking, which she enjoys doing with her dad in the Black Hills of South Dakota. (So far, she has discovered two continuations of cave system that were previously unmapped!) In Minneapolis, Amanda gets her exercise kicks through running, circuit training, and yoga.
   
Patrick Schmid, Certified Structural Integrator  Patrick is a graduate of the Guild for Structural Integration in Boulder, CO. Structural Integration works with the fascia, bringing soft tissues into better balance and the body into better alignment with gravity. Patrick has worked with teens to 80 year old clients who are interested in refining their current health status, seeking to recover after injury, or looking for relief from specific conditions such as carpel tunnel, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, and fibromyalgia. Patrick is a guitar player, singer, landscaper and gardener.
   

Golf Training

 

Andrew Tank, Golf Teaching Professional  Andrew Tank is the only Level II Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Golf Professional in Minnesota. He is looking forward to partnering with the fitness staff at CES to develop individualized golf training programs that match the physical characteristics of each client. Andrew was a member of the Minnesota golf team from 1997 to 2002, and was the captain of the 2002 Big Ten and NCAA National Championship Team. He is now in his sixth season coaching with the University of Minnesota men's golf program. In August 2007, he was promoted to associate head coach after spending the previous five seasons as assistant coach. In addition to working with the Gophers, he works regularly with top amateurs and professionals. Andrew has caddied on the PGA and Nationwide Tours numerous times. His students compete on the PGA, Nationwide, European, Australian, Asian, and Canadian Tours, and have won multiple times on mini-tours in the U.S.

   
David Branstad, Golf Teaching Professional  David is Class A Member of the PGA of America, a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and the Head Teaching Professional at Oak Ridge Country Club in Hopkins, MN.  He was an Acushnet Scholarship Recipient with the PGA and has a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and Marketing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. David is passionate about golf and helping people enjoy playing more golf. He remains incredibly active in his continuing education seeking knowledge from the world’s best instructors and industry professionals. He also serves as a member of the PGA of America’s President‘s Council, a recognition for growing the game of golf. David greatly enjoys developing junior golfers and volunteers as a consultant/instructor to the Hopkins High School boy’s golf teams. He utilizes V1 golf video analysis software. This software allows for a detailed eye of the golf swing along with the availability to burn lessons onto DVD’s or upload them to the internet for you to see.

Teaching Philosophy
David does not believe there is one correct way to swing a golf club. There are many ways to swing a golf club, but there is a right way for you based on what you can physically do. Through attention to the short game and a concentration on the movement of your body in the golf swing, you will enjoy playing more golf.
